Absolutely essential piece of kit on any tramp summer or winter. Not taking a thermal top to keep you warm is not a smart move in the unforgiving Fiordland National Park. They are quick drying and wick away the water/sweat from your skin. Usually when hiking in Fiordland take two thermal tops and one thermal longs. And keep one dry for the hut or tent at night.
