Canon's widest available rectilinear (non-fisheye) lens and the widest in the L series is perfect for when the widest possible angle is required. This lens truly comes into its own on a full frame camera (1Ds, 5D) but also provides brutally ultra wide angles on both 1.3x and 1.6x crop sensors. The lens is reasonably fast at f/2.8 and has far better controlled barrel distortion than other lens' in this focalrange. Perfect for ultra wide angle applications such as architecture, real-estate and interiors, amongst others, this lens is a great asset.
